Foods originally from the "Tagalog"
Are you a food lover? Do you want to taste something different? Well, check my blog if you want to have some "pinoy-style" in your mouth.
Listed below are the top 5 foods (in my opinion) of Region four that you would want to taste after checking my delicious blog:
1. Bulalo
A bowl of beef soaked in broth, nice and warm, paired with flavorsome
beef bone marrow and yummy vegetables like young corn, Petchay, and potatoes. Bulalo originally from Batangas will surely keep you warm
in a stormy weather. So if you like to taste something beefy, try the Bulalo while its hot.
2. Longanisa Lucban
When it comes to Longanisa, Lucban's version cannot be ignored. It is made of ground pork with fat included, oregano extract, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic. Longganisa lucban is a garlicky slightly sour sausage that is quite
similar to chorizo de bilbao, the famous garlic sausage from Spain. This
is a fresh homemade version that doesn't involve any curing. Have a taste of our local longganisa and experience a different kind of native food.
3. Pilipit
Pilipit is a rice-based delicacy that originated in Quezon. It is sweet, soft and sticky and is usually shaped like the number eight, thus it is called Pilipit or "twisted" in English. Pilipit are hard crunchy sugar-glazed bread twists. It is very tempting; anyone will find it hard to resist this delicacy. This is usually served on banana leaves and best eaten when hot. It is also one of my favorite snacks in the Philippines. Want something crunchy for dessert? Try these now.
4. Pansit Habhab
Pancit Habhab (from Lucban, Quezon) is a local delicacy of sauteed noodles mixed with chopped pork, shrimps and vegetables. Mixed with just
the right amount of onion and garlic, and you already have a complete
and filling meal. What adds excitement to eating Pancit Habhab is the
fact that it is eaten without using any utensils of any kind. To truly
enjoy the noodles, it is placed on a rectangular banana leaf and you
must eat using only your mouth. Tastes delicious right? Order one now.
5. Tawilis
Batangas is well known for its port. It is well known also for its tasty Tilapia. Not far behind in taste and demand is the Tawilis, a rare freshwater sardine (one of only two such species in the world) that can only be found in Taal Lake. Tawilis is as an example of an endemic, endangered Filipino delicacy. It is an exclusively Pinoy dish. It's endemic to Taal, which means you cannot get it anywhere else in the world. It is as mysterious as its lake home. No one has found its spawning pattern or a specimen of its egg unlike many other endemic Taal lake species, it doesn't survive for more than a few minutes if taken out of the lake. The fish is deep fried and is very crunchy. It gets along with vinegar. You should try this if you're a seafood lover.
